The first official Earthship ever built back in 1979 is now refurbished for use as a nighty rental. It is called the “Hobbit House”.

The space The Hobbit House is the one of the first Earthship ever built back in 1979 and is now being refurbished for use as a nightly rental. It has a studio size with kitchen/living/dining and greenhouse with shower and toilet. There is a wood burning fireplace and gas back up heater to keep it very cozy as this was an early design we had not yet figured out how to heat the house with the sun alone as demonstrated in our newer models.
We provide kitchen cookware, place settings, coffee pot with coffee and tea, salt and pepper and olive oil. The beds are made and we offer towels, shampoo, soap, and lotion.
Daily maid service is not available, but additional linens are available for stays of one week or more upon request.

Self check-in. Please let us know when you will be arriving.
Check out is by 11AM. Simply leave the key on the table or in the door and walk out.

As a renter of the Hobbit House we would like to extend an invitation to you to come see our EARTHSHIP Visitor Center free of charge. Just let them know you rented the Hobbit House. Our Visitor Center address is: #2 Earthship Way, Tres Piedras, NM 87577 It is located 1.5 miles West of the Rio Grande George Bridge on 64. You will see our sign.
